Graffiti is Vandalism

 When I walk down the street I get distracted by these spray painted words with different colors inside of them. These words are bubbled together that I can barely read them. These words are on a side of a building that is brand new. The pictures or words distract you like if you’re in a trance, but then you realize that someone just came and decided to write on a brand new building that could of taken people months to build. This is graffiti and it is vandalism.

As you can see graffiti is considered vandalism. Some reasons why it’s considered vandalism is because they are spray painting peoples properties. When people find out that they have spray paint on their properties they get upset and a little angry. For example, when a store has ugly black spray painted words on the side it can draw away customers from the store and that’s bad for the business. Another reason why people get mad is because they have to spend money to have it removed. If graffiti wasn't vandalism then people wouldn't get mad.

Another reason why graffiti is considered vandalism is because sometimes it has to do with gangs. They fight territory. Most graffiti writings that you see is of gang signs. When you look at the graffiti closely you can see where they cross out each other’s gang signs with ugly black spray paint. Also, they put inappropriate words next to the signs and that is not good for little kids to read or see.

Some people might think that graffiti is art because they create it themselves it’s their own idea but they might put their art on walls. People that do graffiti may think that it’s like murals it can tell stories and its their personal art. For example, it could be like when you get a idea instead of putting it on paper you put it on walls so everyone can see. People get mad because they are writing on their walls but instead of having plain walls why not decorate it with color. Also when people do graffiti they think of it as representing themselves and that’s how they show themselves to the world. Those are some reasons why people that do graffiti think it’s art.

I recommend you go to Visalia and go behind stores and I guarantee you will see graffiti. Everyone who does graffiti are ruining our own town and making it look ugly. Why would people want to spend money covering up these ugly writings? People should stop doing graffiti because this is a ugly thing to do.
